Kasimir could not stand his new husband, who he saw as immature and emotionally stunted. Despite offers from his sister to return to the court at Pyrox, Kasimir, stubborn as ever, was determined to stay in Kolarus. He started integrating himself early. First he earned favor with his new father-in-law, the Duke of Kolarus, and then he worked his way through the entire court. Inch by inch, Kasimir grew out his roots. He knew when to turn on the charm, when to boast, and when to speak straight to the point. While the Duke's heir cloistered himself in the library, Kasimir was busy rubbing elbows and gaining allies.

He was never destined for power, at least not directly. But as young as he was, Kasimir already saw his path to the top. His husband was much too delicate for the art of statecraft, and never moreso than in the wake of the Duke's death. While Alder disappeared himself, Kasimir dutifully handled all of the funeral planning. The court breathed a sigh of relief that at least of the young men was prepared to rule.

The matter of succession was... messy. Kasimir and Alder struggled to endure each other at the best of times. However, after the first assassination attempt, both parties were strongly advised to put their differences aside long enough to produce an heir. Kasimir requested enough wine to make the task seem palatable, and the two managed to find a way into the same bed. Nothing would come of it. The royal pair were forced to endure each other more and more often as time passed, and they struck up some sexual chemistry along the way.

Years had passed since they first clashed, and Kasimir was beginning to forget why he hated Alder in the first place. War had since set in with Alder's wretched older brother, and Kasimir found himself feeling strangely protective over his strange little husband. The pair of them would eventually conceive, and the matter of succession was settled. If he chose, Kasimir could go back to ignoring his marriage entirely. But there was something about Alder that, miserably enough, he had grown fond of. Kasimir's heart has betrayed him.

Oh well.
